The Next Big Thing

So Kirsti Wishart has invited me to be part of this Next Big Thing thing, where writers talk about what they’ve just written, and what they’re going to do next. I might have one or two surprising things to say when it comes to my turn next week, but in the meantime, read Kirsti’s own intriguing version. She really is brilliant (and no, she didn’t pay me to say that) but in an understated, Fife sort of way.

Any Stevenson fans idling about Edinburgh on Tuesday (13th) should get themselves down to the National Portrait Gallery between 10 and 5 when the whole of Treasure Island will be read aloud to celebrate the great man’s birthday. John Sessions and Nigel Planer are on between 3 and 4. I’m reading Chapter 31 at 4, and Chapter 33 at 4.24 – or at least that’s the plan: timings, needless to say, may slip.

So I may have to follow Sessions…

Something New

I was gutted back last month when Scored Stories, a music-combined-with-prose event I was organising with Gavin Inglis and Dickson Telfer, didn’t come off. All is not lost though and something like it will happen at some point. In the meantime, here’s a demo version of one of the stories I was going to debut, Special. It’s not perfect by any means: I need to work on the best way to get the vocals recorded, and I want to move in the direction of putting more of the musical content in myself rather than relying on samples. But it maybe gives you the idea.

Venus News

Great news for Tribute to Venus Carmichael fans – we’ve got a gig lined up for Thursday, 29th November at the Meadow Bar. More than that we’re looking to go into the studio this month, so keep tuned in here for news….
